About Kerala
Kerala, along India's south-western coast. Every tour here follows the same arc inland before it reaches the water. It begins at Cochin and climbs to Munnar, at around 1,600 metres, where the hills are covered in tea and the sightseeing runs between lakes, dams and viewpoints. It then crosses the Western Ghats through the spice plantations to Thekkady, on the edge of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. From there the road drops to Alleppey and the tours move onto a houseboat for a night on the Kuttanad backwaters — a network of lakes, canals and paddy fields lying below the level of the water, with all meals served on board. How the tour ends is the choice between the three: a straight return to Cochin, an extra night for the churches, synagogue and Chinese fishing nets of Fort Kochi, or two nights south on the Kovalam coast with a day trip to Kanyakumari.
